Steps to Becoming a BMDMI Missionary

"How shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent?"
Romans 10:14-15

It's a powerful question - Could God be calling you to serve on the foreign mission field with BMDMI?

The job of foreign missionary is not an easy one but it is certainly one of the most rewarding. Those that feel God's call to serve in a different culture are faced with a lot of soul searching and prayer. But we see time and again how God reveals himself to his people and meets their needs faithfully.

  1. Send your resume (and your spouse's resume, if married) along with cover letter expressing interest in the missionary program to our administrative office at the following address:

    BMDMI Missionary Program
    11 Plaza Drive
    Hattiesburg, MS 39402

  2. A BMDMI representative will contact you to arrange an informal interview with administrative staff in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The main purpose of this interview is for you to gather more information about BMDMI and missionary service opportunities and requirements.

  3. If you wish to continue to process, you should request a missionary application form and a copy of the Missionary Handbook. You must then mail the completed application and other require documents to the BMDMI administrative offices at the address listed above.

  4. Upon receiving the application, the BMDMI staff will review the materials. If everything appears to be in order, you will be contacted to arrange for an interview with BMDMI's Personnel Committee in Hattiesburg.

  5. After this interview, the Personnel Committee will decide if they will recommend to the Board of Trustees that you be approved for candidacy in our missionary service.

  6. If the Board of Trustees approves your candidacy status, you may continue in the appointment process by submitting the remaining necessary documents (physical & psychological exam results), attending a missionary training program in Hattiesburg, Mississippi to prepare you for fundraising and cultural adaptation, and beginning your fundraising.

  7. Upon completion of fundraising, all Career Missionary and Affiliate Candidates must receive language training at the Spanish Language Institute in San Jose, Costa before moving to their field of service. In most cases, missionaries with little or no working knowledge of Spanish will be required to study in Costa Rica for one year. This time in language school may be reduced if the missionary reaches a certain level of proficiency documented by the school. Sojourners may or may not be required to attend a four-week, intensive Spanish language seminar at the Spanish Language Institute in Costa Rica, depending upon their area of service.

  8. As your language studies draw to completion, you will be commissioned (Affiliates and Sojourners are "affirmed") for foreign mission service at the BMDMI National Conference. Upon being commissioned or affirmed at this service, you will receive full missionary status.
